Alberta's new Privacy Bill

Bill 33 was introduced on November 6, 2024, called the Protection of Privacy Act, 2024.


It provides restrictions on public bodies like schools, boards, police, universities and hospitals, ensuring they properly manage and protect personal information.  Stricter penalties are imposed, and it attempts to make FOIP requests more efficient.  Also expanding reporting requirements where personal information has been breached.
