Canada's Privacy Commissioner will Chair this year's G7 meetings on Privacy Laws in Ottawa.  In attendance are representatives from France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK, US and EU.  This is the fifth such meeting since 2021.

The meetings strive for consistency between jurisdictions, and includes digital technologies including Ai.

Last year's meetings focused on data scraping, reminding Ai creators that even publicly available personal information is subject to Privacy Laws in most jurisdictions.

The statements pointed out that social media hosts had an obligation to protect personal information on their websites, and that mass data scraping violated most laws.  If a host grants permission to data scraping of personal information, that can be illegal.  Hosts were reminded that any consent to same would require consent that is both transparent and informed - to start, and in some cases even the consent of the owner of the personal information may not be enough.
