The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced the Voice Cloning Challenge to address the harms of AI-enabled voice cloning technologies. The challenge aims to encourage the development of solutions to protect consumers from AI-enabled voice cloning harms, including fraud and the misuse of biometric data and creative content. The FTC is seeking ideas from the public to detect, evaluate, and monitor cloned voices. The challenge focuses on three primary areas: administrability and feasibility to execute, increased company responsibility, and reduced consumer burden, and resilience to rapid technological change. The FTC emphasizes that a multidisciplinary response is needed to address the risks posed by voice cloning and other AI technology.
